Sandy, Utah Real Estate: A Long History in the Valley

Sandy, Utah real estate has a long-standing reputation for having very thirsty soil. It has never been decided definitely where the name of the city came from initially, but there are two competing theories. The first origin references the dry, arid soil that is common in the area that makes agriculture difficult. The name was said to have been given by Brigham Young but this story has never been substantiated. The other theory follows that the name of the town came from the colorful railway engineer, Alexander "Sandy" Kinghorn, who helped lay the first railway line along the length of the Salt Lake Valley.

Although the city wasn't incorporated until 1893, its development began in earnest with the construction of a rail line that allowed easy transport of mined minerals to nearby Salt Lake City. The creation of a streetcar service followed by the automobile would further cement the reputation of Sandy, Utah real estate as a suburb and sleeper community to the larger center to the north.
